Copper

Bisglycinate · 1 mgCollagen cofactor Evidence: Mechanistic

An essential trace mineral required by the enzyme that cross-links collagen and elastin.

On the label: Copper. Also known as Trace copper, Dietary copper.

What it does for you

Makes sure the enzyme that gives collagen its strength has what it needs.

Why we use it

Included in trace amounts because lysyl oxidase cannot work without it. Trace is the right word: more copper is not better and can be harmful.

Mechanism

Copper is a required cofactor for lysyl oxidase, the enzyme that forms the cross-links holding collagen and elastin fibres together.

Commonly confused with

This is elemental copper, the dietary mineral in VitalBuild Daily Collagen Powder. It is not the same as Copper Tripeptide-1, the copper peptide in VitalCopper Renewal Face Serum. Both involve copper, but one is a nutrient your body needs in trace amounts and the other is a peptide applied to skin. Alloi uses both, in different products, for different reasons.

Who should be cautious

Copper-handling disorders such as Wilson's disease. Do not stack multiple copper-containing supplements.
